Anthem Review
|If you wanted a definition of “mixed bag” just take a look at the Anthem reviews that have been knocking around. The diversity in this game’s opinions has been staggering, but I’ve quite enjoyed it.
There’s a decent amount to do here, and as you work through the main missions you’ll get sidetracked by contracts and quests for various people around Fort Tarsis, the bastion town where you spend your time between jetting off around the place taking on the bad guys. Endgame content is a little light, but the flying and fighting parts of the game are wonderful and reaching the endgame is an experience that, in a normal game, would make a decent title.
There are plenty of weapons to find and the combo system between abilities and weapons (where you prime and enemy with a certain element then detonate it for huge damage) is cool and rewards teamwork.
I found that by not playing it a huge amount I didn’t reach the bulk of the problems before they started getting patched out. The game still isn’t perfect, but with plenty of updates on the way you could do worse than jump in now the biggest bugs have been squashed.
