Bricking It by Nick Spalding Review
I read a lot of Nick Spalding books, he’s hilarious and I’ve been known to laugh out loud in company which has got me some funny looks from time to time. Released at the beginning of December, Bricking It tells the story of Dan and Haley Daley, a brother and sister who inherit their Grandma’s run down old house and go about doing it up to sell.
It’s hilarious from page one and the scrapes and mishaps all the way through make you wonder how two people can get so unlucky; if you’ve ever watched Tom Hanks in The Money Pit then you’ll love this book, from an eccentric architect to a television crew that will film the whole renovation from beginning to end, there’s a host of great characters and with all the problems they face, I did wonder if the house would ever be fit to sell.
I loved every minute of it, and if you want a real lighthearted humorous read then I’d highly recommend this book.
This was my first and last Nick Spalding book. It’s terrible. The cliches come thick and fast, the characters are totally unauthentic, the clumsily setup gags aren’t funny. Seriously, I’m completely at a loss to explain his popularity except perhaps there’s some kind of group hysteria going on!
