Madden NFL 17 Review (PS4)

In the 90s, a Madden game meant digitised sound and an ambulance ploughing down half the players when someone got injured. Great days. Nowadays it’s far more realistic, but every bit as fun.

Madden 17 gives you loads to do. The franchise mode has been improved, and now gives you the options to only take part in offensive or defensive plays. Better yet, you can just play the big moments if you’d rather, leaving the PS4 to do the majority of the donkey work for you. In this mode you get to carry out the big 3rd downs, the final-second punt returns or the Superbowl-deciding 2 point conversions. It lets you speed through an otherwise slow game mode, which is pretty awesome.

The presentation is hugely impressive too, with spectacular visuals and TV style presentation. Commentaries aren’t too great right now, but they’re being constantly updated so might be far better before too long.

So it’s no surprise that I’m finding it very easy to recommend Madden 17 to people I speak to. It’s incredibly polished, looks fantastic and has a range of new features designed to allow more people than ever to enjoy the Madden series. We might not get the early 90s joy of of that ambulance, but almost everything else is totally on the money.
