Simplissime Review

The concept of a “simple cook book” is a strange one. I’ve picked up several books claiming to make cooking easier, only to be met with in-depth methods, 15 ingredients and 5 hours preparation time. Simple, my arse. But Simplissime does things differently, making each recipe contain no more than 4 or 5 ingredients, and methods so simple and obvious that almost anyone could make a genuinely nice French-inspired meal without much fuss.

The layout of the book is very pretty as well – each recipe takes up two pages, but included in that is large images of each ingredient and the method on the left hand page, and a full-page gorgeous looking photo of the finished product on the right. No fuss, no multi-paragraph explanation of the history behind each meal, just quick and simple cooking for those who just want something tasty without having to pretend to be a Michelin starred chef.

So would we recommend Simplissime? Yes, absolutely. It’s a book to leave out for visitors to drool over, and one to keep in the kitchen for when you just want some quick inspiration. It’s dirt cheap too, currently clocking in at £7 on Amazon. Worth every penny and many more besides.
