Middle Earth: Shadow of War Review (PS4)
|Following the success of Shadow of Morder, Shadow of War is another Lord of the Rings inspired hack and slash game which takes all that was great in the first game and… well, carries it on.
The key element to the first game was the Nemesis system, allowing NPCs to develop over the course of the game and level up if you failed to prevent them gaining power or respect. Get killed by one and there’s a whole heap of trouble ahead as they rank up and become even more powerful. It’s a brilliant system still, and means the prospect of getting sidetracked while you try and wipe out the enemy’s higher ranks is just as high as it ever has been.
The story is decent too when you stick to it, and contributes to this being an overall brilliant game that lets you feel like a badass while not really doing anything overly complicated. Nice.
