Final Fantasy XV Review (PS4)

It’s taken a while to arrive, but Final Fantasy XV has arrived, and it’s really quite good. Worth the wait? Hell yes.

The game is huge, and gorgeous. By the time I’d put in enough hours to finish most games comfortably I was just getting started with the story; not because it was a slow and laborious game, but because I’d got sidetracked with the many side quests on offer, spent an absurdly long time fishing just for the fun of it, or just gone round as many places as possible looking for extra quests.

It pays off too, keeping your character beefed up slightly ahead of the recommended level for the story missions is a useful trick and means you don’t need to reload too many times. Similarly the extra money comes in handy when trying to keep your weapons as powerful as your characters, and when you mix in the magical side of things and the multiple progress trees as well you’ve got a lot to be keeping an eye on. Rushing certainly isn’t the way to go.

There’s still a lot of Final Fantasy XV I haven’t seen yet, but I’m determined to play through again, trying out things I didn’t do first time. I want to do more Chocobo racing, I want to do more fishing for the more difficult fish. I want to try a different route through the skills tress. But ultimately, I want to enjoy the genius of the game again.
