Absolute Drift: Zen Edition Review (PS4)

Absolute Drift ticks every box you might want as an aspiring sideways driver: you can slide sideways round long corners, under cranes and leap sideways over shipping containers without a single consequence if it all goes wrong. The worst case scenario? Restart and try again. No penalties, no limited lives, just endless drifting. Nice.

The action flicks between a huge open area where you can practise and complete small tasks, and the main events which have you sliding yourself round some ever-increasingly tricky courses and tracks. Bonus points can be picked up in multiple ways, but it’s the long, flowing combos which will bag you the big prize – the top spot on the leaderboard against your friends. “Addictive” doesn’t come close.

The handling, once you get the hang of it, feels great, and the low-key colour scheme gives this a magical Japanese beauty which is unmistakable with the white and red emphasis around the free-drive area. Night time events look spot on too.

All in all, if you’ve ever wanted to be a drifting King or Queen, now’s your chance. This is great fun.
