Armada by Ernest Cline Review

Anyone who enjoyed Ready Player One has probably heard of Armada, the book which followed from author Ernest Cline. Again, the focus here is on video games, this time focussing on a college kid who balances his job in a games shop with school, playing his favourite space combat game Armada, and trying to figure out what his dad was researching before he died in a work accident.

Some time later it becomes very apparent that the game wasn’t all it appeared to be, and as the story turns into a real life sci-fi (I know, “real life” and “sci-fi” aren’t terms which go together well) everything starts to get quite heroic and cheesy, while still being a great read and a solid page turner in the process.

It’s no Ready Player One, so don’t expect the same level of awesome story, but it’s a very enjoyable read and well worth looking at if you’ve got an equal interest in gaming and sci-fi novels.
