T.I.M.E Stories Review

If there’s one thing that most board games don’t do too well, it’s telling stories. While there might be plenty of action, quests to do or scenarios to beat the actual narrative tends to be left behind. T.I.M.E Stories looks set to do away with that theory, by kicking off a series of card-based stories involving time travel, discovery, and plenty of short-term failure.

The idea is that you jump into a host character, try to solve the mystery laid out in front of you (in the case of this first story, it’s based in an asylum) and once you run out of time, jump back to the beginning and start again with all of your current knowledge safely intact. Ever seen the Source Code movie? Then you know what to expect.

You’ll only play it through once, but the initial outlay is in the board and components which host the stories. Beyond this opening story you’ll have expansion cases (of which two are already available) which will cost less and just comprise of the cards needed to build up the story.

Don’t be put off by people who roll their eyes at the price of a game which you’ll play once. You’re investing in a system to be part of interactive story telling, and with the asylum story being both gripping and enjoyable it’s very much something worth buying into. Definitely one to recommend.
